About AgSCI

Independent third party crop yield testing services have been an important means to assess seed product performance in the agricultural community. Land grant universities, farm management services and other entities annually plant numerous seed products to evaluate grain yield, grain moisture, and plant standability. These test results are typically posted to a website in various electronic formats by individual testing locations. Growers and seedsmen value these unbiased results to validate product performance claims by seed companies before making seed purchasing decisions.

Evaluating seed product performance across multiple tests having agronomic production environment and practices similar to your farm is essential for choosing the right seed product. Product performance at a single location will only provide a snapshot of what happens in that field under the current environmental conditions. Evaluating product performance across multiple environments will display the true yield potential regardless of environment. Selecting the “best” product from varied environments will minimize risk of yield failure in future “unknown” growing conditions. The seed industry has used this approach to select the next generation of products for years. Isn’t it time for producers and seedsmen to have similar techniques at their disposal?

Currently there are no online corn or soybean databases that have a large pool of test locations and allow users to include/exclude test data to match on-farm production practices. AgSCI is designed to do exactly that. We want AgSCI users to identify the seed products ideally suited for their geography and farming operation.

AgSCI product comparisons do not follow the standard Head to Head approach where product results are pooled together only if found in the same test. Instead, AgSCI compares individual product performance to the test average performance. Product vs. product “deviation from average” is actually being compar. This approach assumes that products with 20 or more testing locations, reach a reliable indication of their genetic performance potential, overcoming the effects of environment. This genetic potential will then provide an accurate relative ranking when compared to other products.

AgSCI will allow users to quickly search data by crop, geography (regions within single or multiple states), crop maturity, testing year (single or multiple), and traits. The resulting product list provides users a general yield performance summary. Specific test details and production parameters for products of interest can be investigated. Tests with undesired production practices can be excluded from product results providing users with product performance tailored for their typical production practices.

We hope that AgSCI will help you to quickly identify seed products that consistently deliver above average performance to improve the profitability of your farming operation.
